Why Study Astrology?
Astrology is a Symbolic Language
Even more then an art, astrology is a language. It gives symbolic keys and express nuances in people's psyche. It can be extraordinarily revealing when it comes to understanding oneself and others. In the light of an astrological chart, many attitudes and motivating forces in people suddenly take on a completely different dimension - the astrological interpretation brings meaning.
Astrology Leads to Self Discovery
As such, astrology is a powerful tool for self discovery. An essential part of the astrological journey is to the study of one's own chart. Having conducted this study of yourself, it is more probable that the views you hold about your essential nature will change, and that a new light will be shed on the reasons for a number of past choices and actions. New facets of yourself will be revealed, as well as powerful keys for self-transformation work.
Study of Symbolism
Astrology is perhaps the most comprehensive established system of symbolic thought. As such, it is a royal way into the study of symbolism, which can then be applied to all fields of life, from plants to dreams, via medicine and its alchemical developments.

In our perception of the human psyche, nothing is fixed, everything can be transformed. Astrology does not tell us the way things have to be, but only the way things may well be if we don't do anything about it. By helping us to discern the many forces within ourselves, it allows us no to be caught in mechanical reactions. Some see in astrology a fatalistic discipline. We see in it exactly the opposite: a discipline aiming at releasing ourselves from fatality and achieving free will.
Esoteric Astrology
There is not one astrology, but many astrologies. Astrology is a tool. It can be used in many different purposes. We will use astrology in a way that is essentially aimed at self-transformation and spiritual work. Therefore, when studying signs, planets and aspects, we will always try to discover the esoteric elements hidden in the symbols, because they are those which allow us to understand and use astrology within the framework of a spiritual quest.
Astrosophy versus Astrology
The Clairvision approach to astrology has absolutely nothing to do with the horoscopes found in newspapers. According to us, these have no validity of any kind, and not much to do with real astrology. Many astrologers have been so horrified at these newspaper horoscopes that they have chosen to give another name to their work, so as to clearly indicate that they had nothing to do with them. Thus they have used terms such as 'Astrosophy "(Rudolf Steiner and the anthroposophists), 'astro-cyclical pulsations' (Frater Albertus and the alchemists of the Paraclesus College), and so on.
These reactions are understandable, yet it seems preferable to us not to give up on the traditional term 'astrology,' which will be retained in this manual and other works by the Clairvision School.
However, it should be clear that what we are interested in is the philosophical and spiritual sides of that science, and not cheap fortune telling.
No Divorce From the Sky
One of the ways that makes Clairvision different then other astrologers is we encourage you to look at the sky, identify the planets and the constellations. This will give you a connection to the powerful soul-forces which come from observing the stars and receiving their energies.
